Apollo 83701042 Spiral Cable Now Available for Asphalt Paver Control Systems

We have added the Apollo 83701042 spiral cable to our asphalt paver spare parts range. The cable connects the digital controller to the paver control system, and it is the part most often replaced when travel or screed commands start dropping out mid-shift.

The 83701042 is a coiled control cable that extends to 1.5 metres. One end carries a 12-hole bayonet connector, the other a 10-hole screw connector. The extended coil lets the operator walk the full length of the screed walkway without unplugging, then retracts out of the way when the machine moves. It is supplied as a good quality OEM part, built to the original connector layout and pin assignment.

Why Controller Cables Fail Before the Controller Does

A controller cable lives in one of the harshest spots on a paver: it is flexed thousands of times a day, dragged over walkway edges, exposed to asphalt tack coat, diesel and heat from the screed zone. The failure is rarely sudden. It usually shows up in stages:

• Travel or screed commands respond intermittently, then recover when the cable is wiggled.
• The controller drops signal when the operator reaches the far end of the walkway.
• The bayonet connector works loose after a day of paving and needs re-seating.
• One or two functions stop responding while the rest of the controller works normally.

In most of these cases the controller itself is fine and only the cable needs replacing. Swapping the cable first removes one variable from the fault-finding list and is far cheaper than sending a controller for repair.

Fitting Notes for the Workshop

Switch off the paver and disconnect the battery before replacing the cable. Check the controller socket for bent pins before fitting the 12-hole bayonet end, and confirm the screw connector is fully seated before powering up. Route the coil away from the exhaust and the screed burner zone, then test travel, screed and auger functions before the machine goes back on the job.

Each cable is packed in a protective bag inside a carton box to prevent connector damage in transit, and export cartons are palletised for container loading.
